Album Reviews:

."............ a vibrant record, full of life."     FATEA Magazine

"Somewhere Down The Line is a beautifully crafted collection of songs, that take the listener on a journey through the heart and soul of the songwriters. Having previously heard the songs performed live in a totally acoustic fashion, I was extremely pleased to discover that the recordings succeed in enhancing those performances with very careful and subtle use of additional instrumentation. This is something that isn’t as easily achieved as you might expect and I’ve heard many recordings in the past that have been over cooked compared with the live performances. Marina Florance is without any pretention. This really shows in her command of the performance, and Mick Kennedy adds a perfect blend of strength and subtlety to the proceedings. Another masterful thing about these songs is that they are written with heartfelt feeling, but they appeal to a wide audience. It is a true feat to produce something as substantial, but as friendly to listen to as this album. It is a true mark of song writing and musicianship."  Jason at Play The Music

"This beautiful album from Marina Florance is completely satisfying. 13 songs and one tune long, Marina’s voice and songwriting is the golden source of Somewhere Down the Line." Anne L Ryan at Moving Tone News. Read the full review here. Moving Tone News.

Artwork:

One of the first things you will notice about the Album is the striking artwork.

All of the artwork on the album and on the website was created by Jules Allen, who is also a co-writer on the album under the name of Julie Fox-Allen.

Info:

The official release date has not been set but the album is already out there and it is receiving rave reviews.

The album, entitled "Somewhere Down The Line", is an astoundingly good collaboration of original songs and music written by Marina, Julie Fox-Allen (long time good friend and fine artist) and Mick Kennedy (guitarist and Luthier). Only in the last few years have the trio really been able to afford time together to develop new material and evolve the old. If you do not have the album yet, you can hear parts of it here and on Marina's myspace. There are also some promotional copies available for Radio, TV and publicity purposes.

The East of England Arts Council via the Escalator Project is the vehicle that has made this long awaited album finally arrive. Obviously, with an incredible collection of music and lyrics just waiting to be heard and with the support and direction from the fantastic team at High Barn the end product could be described as "unbelievable". Only by actually holding the cover in your hand whilst listening to the tracks makes it real. Each of the 14 tracks stands out, reviewers constantly name different tracks as the one they love and fans that have had solid favourites over the years have found their loyalties now shifting from song to song.    The quality of Marina ’s live performance has been captured, recorded and enhanced by some very subtle instrumentation. With her distinctive voice the album producers realised they had found someone they really wanted to work with. They had the confidence to produce an album that delivers Marina 's vocal sound whole, with no sugar, no spice and certainly no tweaking in the studio. At Marina's request it was recorded just like it is and she has delivered on every song.

For those people around Marina nobody is shocked that she has created something like this, we have all been a long time listening to her and wondering why it was only a small circle of us that  knew that these beautiful songs existed.

Who does she sound like ?  What kind of music is this ? Two constant questions, the only answer to come up with is "it depends who is listening", Marina has been told that she sounds like many different people so who knows, maybe she just sounds like herself!  Just take a little time to listen and decide for yourself. As for the music who really cares, but if you feel the need to file it in the appropriate place you could try; new folk, acoustic, country, rock or pop, or maybe it's just easy listening, but then again maybe it's not. However, something that this music is, is the kind you play to lift you up, or to create a mood, the kind you play when your friends come around to chill out on a Sunday afternoon drinking wine and eating great food. It is the kind of music that catches inside your head and makes you realise that life is an amazing thing.

Take the time to see Marina gigging in Norwich and other parts of East Anglia . Say hi and let her know what you think, give your opinion of what type of music it is, or who she sounds like or just come and say hello.

Keep checking back for the latest and thank you for reading this far!
